Artist Statement

Conversations with Nature

Curiosity, observation, and wonder are constants in my life. I see plants, animals, humans and elements in an ongoing process of evolution and invention. Art is my way of drawing the viewer into this experience whether dramatic, sacred, profane or humorous. I am most interested in reflecting the big picture through the tiny mirror of my brush. Painting small things larger than life miniaturizes the viewer and magnifies the mystery.

The connecting theme in my artwork is the fluid and permeable boundary between humans and animals and plants.

On the whimsical side – most artists have one – is my series called Desert Dada, showing animals as dignitaries clothed in the beauty of their native flora and fauna. Or shoes and chairs made by unnamed entities that inhabit the wild places.
